These materials are widely used in ultra-high-temperature ceramics, aerospace thermal protection systems, cutting tools, conductive ceramic components, armor materials, metallurgical additives, and advanced electronics. The supply chain of niobium boride begins with upstream mining and refining of niobium-bearing ores such as pyrochlore and columbite, primarily processed into ferroniobium, niobium oxide, or high-purity niobium metal, while boron sources are derived from borax, boric acid, boron carbide, or elemental boron production. In the midstream stage, niobium boride powders and bulk materials are synthesized through carbothermal reduction, borothermal reduction, self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), hot pressing, spark plasma sintering, or powder metallurgy techniques. Downstream industries then integrate niobium boride into aerospace components, high-temperature coatings, wear-resistant industrial parts, semiconductor-related materials, defense systems, and advanced manufacturing applications requiring exceptional thermal and mechanical performance. In 2025, global Niobium Boride output was about 4,000 tons with 5,000 tons of capacity, average prices of USD 18,000–30,000 per ton, and gross margins around 38%.
