The supply chain starts upstream with semiconductor wafers, silicon photonics chips, III-V laser materials, optical lenses, optical fibers, substrates, PCBs, DSP/ASIC chips, and packaging materials supplied by photonics, semiconductor, and specialty materials companies. Midstream activities include optical engine manufacturing, co-packaged optics integration, precision optical alignment, advanced packaging, and assembly/testing performed by optical module manufacturers and network hardware OEMs. Downstream sectors include hyperscale cloud providers, AI data centers, telecom operators, enterprise networking, supercomputing systems, and edge computing infrastructure, where OBO modules are deployed in Ethernet switches, InfiniBand systems, AI accelerators, and ultra-high-speed interconnect platforms supporting 400G, 800G, 1.6T, and future optical networking architectures.
